Videodelic Composition Download

About Videodelic Montages

In addition to being a wonderful interactive instrument for playing visual music, Videodelic has a powerful sequencer for creating stunning, dynamic multimedia compositions. Videodelic's Montage Room sequencer allows you to create video art compositions which can be played back in real-time by Videodelic or the the free Videodelic Player. Videodelic montages can also be rendered as QuickTime movies.

Eric Wenger, creator of Videodelic and U &  I's other landmark programs, has composed a number of pieces for Videodelic complete with soundtrack's composed and mixed with MetaSynth and MetaTrack. We are pleased to make several of these available for download so that you can see a range of applications for this remarkable program.

There is a soundtrack file for each montage file. Due to the size of the files, we have not packed the soundtrack and montage files together since we wanted to give users the choice of downloading either high or low fidelity versions of the soundtracks or to view the montage without the soundtrack (you will miss a large part of the experience if you choose not to download the soundtrack.)

Step 1 - Get the player

If you don't already have Videodelic or the Videodelic Player, click here to download the Videodelic Player.

Step 2 - Download the files

For each Videodelic composition, you should download the '.anim' file and either the high fidelity or the low fidelity version of the soundtrack.

 Videodelic Project File
 Lo-Fi Soundtrack  Hi-Fi Soundtrack
Here I am.anim (2.9 meg) - an art piece with an ambient/techno soundtrack  Here I am.mp3 (1.3 meg)  Here I am.mp3 (7 meg)
feedback games.anim (2.1 meg) - an art piece with an ambient electronic score  feedback games.mp3 (759 k)  feedback games.mp3 (4 meg)
vdl intro.anim (417 k.) - this is an example of how you can use Videodelic to create promotional and educational presentations.  vdl intro.mp3 (126 k)  vdl intro.mp3 (676 k)

Step 3 - Convert the soundtracks

In order to reduce download times, we have converted the soundtracks to mp3 format. We have provided both high and low fidelity mp3 files. However, before Videodelic will be able to play the soundtrack,s they will need to be converted back to Videodelic's native SoundDesigner II 44.1 kHz format. You can play the Videodelic files without the soundtracks; however you will lose much of the pieces' impact.

If you have the freeware utility SoundApp (see the next section), you can use a simple conversion script we have created to convert and rename the files with a simple drag and drop. Download it by clicking here.

How can I convert the soundtracks to the correct format?

If you do not already have and application that can perform the conversion, we recommend that you download the freeware SoundApp application. This wonderful utility is available for free from most major shareware sites. SoundApp PPC be found at:

http://download.cnet.com/
http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive.html
and others.

If you do not use our conversion utility, you should make sure that the name of the converted file is identical to the original sound file name with the letters 'sd2' replacing the original file's 'mp3'. For example, trance.mp3 should be converted and renamed trance.sd2.

Step 4 - Playing back the compositions

To play back the compositions, you need to have the Videodelic Player or you need to own Videodelic. Put the soundtrack and the Videodelic montage file (whose suffix is .anim) in the same folder. To play the file with the Videodelic Player, place the player application in the same directory (folder) as the montage file and launch the player. The montage will play back automatically. If you own Videodelic, simply open the montage file and click on the Montage Room's overdrive play icon.
